Swim Club

Swim Club

The Swim Club first started in August 2007, organised by Tracey as an opportunity for our children to have a leisure opportunity throughout the long summer school holidays.

It was so successful and enjoyable that the swim sessions continued from that September onwards at Truro Prep School Pool on Saturday mornings, which is where we have been located up until June 2010. Due to its popularity, the venue has changed to the Truro School Pool which is much bigger and has a challenging deep end!

It is hoped that after this year's summer swim school there will be sufficient instructors and helpers in place to accommodate 20 children. In 2008, the branch received a generous donation from the Bolingey Barbarians for £1,000 given with the express intent to buy equipment. The Swim Club became the beneficiary and is now the proud owner of some very large floats, flippers, goggles and many toys which the children all use regularly.

We meet at 10am and the children receive half an hour of supervised instruction followed by half an hour of water play. At the new venue we are also provided with a lifeguard. We have fantastic instructors who have got to know and understand our children very well and it is really encouraging to see the children gaining in confidence weekly.

Saturday mornings are also an opportunity for parents to 'sit on the sidelines' and have an hour's respite - to share experiences and support one another. The swim club is for children on the spectrum and their siblings up to the age of 16. Our youngest participant is currently 4.

Whilst we may not be able to accommodate all the children all the time, I am happy to maintain a 'waiting list' system. For anyone who wants to join, enquiries to westcornwall@nas.org.uk please.
